The Genesee Valley Orchestra and Chorus (GVOC) presents – CONSTRUCT

  • Hochstein School of Music 50 North Plymouth Avenue Rochester, NY, 14614 United States (map)

Rochester, N.Y., October 25, 2019 – The Board of Directors of the Genesee Valley Orchestra and Chorus is excited to announce their upcoming concert, “Construct.”

Under the leadership of director, Dr. Christopher Petit, the Genesee Valley Orchestra and Chorus (GVOC) begins its 44th season by highlighting the relationship between music and architecture. Leonardo DaVinci found the same mathematical proportions and dimensions within the human body as within the whole of the universe itself. These principles, such as the golden ratio, are inherent in nature and composers, and visual artists use them as tools in their own creating. Join GVOC for a musical celebration of construction as we honor the architectural wonders of Notre-Dame of Paris, Da Vinci’s artwork, and Bach’s compositional process. This program features the Credo of Bach’s B Minor Mass and the U.S. premier of Cecilia MacDowell’s DaVinci Requiem, a work that celebrates the 500th anniversary of Leonardo’s life by combining the text of the traditional Latin Mass for the Dead with English translations of his Notebooks.
